mTECH: An Energy Drink and Health Outcomes Study

• You can participate in the study whether you drink energy drinks or not

As smartphones and wearables gain more sensors, abilities, and popularity, mobile health (mHealth) is becoming a more important part of data collection for clinical trials and healthcare.

Energy drink use is on the rise, but there is little understanding about the long term health effects of energy drink use.

Our study uses mHealth technology to understand energy drinks usage and related health outcomes. By the end of our study, we hope to describe effects of energy drinks on different health markers, such as blood pressure, heart rate, activity level and sleep.

This study is driven by researchers from the Thomas J Long School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences using a ResearchKit powered mobile app (mTECH).

You can participate if:
• You are at least 18 years old
• You are a U.S. resident
• Access to an iOS device with iOS 8.0 or greater

What will you be asked to do?
If you decide to join the study, you will be required to download the free study application on your Apple device with iOS 8.0 or higher from the United States Apple App Store. You will need to confirm your eligibility and accept the informed consent prior to enrolling in the study. Also, the study will ask your permission to access certain health data that is already on or is already being recorded in your Health App. Periodically, we will ask you to answer survey questions. The data sent to the study will include your responses to the survey questions and your health data gathered from your phone itself.

This app is designed for research purposes only. This app is not meant to provide medical advice, attention, or treatment.
